On October 5, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated across the globe to pay tribute to this noble profession which lays the foundations of societies. On this day, the services of teachers are remembered and the importance of education is highlighted. A teacher is not just someone who teaches but also a guide and character builder. He enlightens the hearts and minds of students and plays a key role in making them better citizens of the future.
In Pakistan too, millions of teachers work tirelessly day and night to educate the new generation. Despite limited resources and many difficulties, they devote their energies to spreading education. Unfortunately, the condition of most government schools in Pakistan is not satisfactory. Basic facilities such as clean drinking water, toilets, furniture, and modern teaching tools are lacking, which prevents the efforts of teachers from yielding the desired results.
Teachers in government schools also face several problems. Low salaries, insufficient training, and limited access to modern curricula make it difficult for them to raise the standard of education. World Teachers’ Day reminds us of the fact that we must take serious measures to improve our educational infrastructure. Without empowering teachers and improving the condition of government schools, we cannot realize the dream of educational development.
The government and society must acknowledge the status of teachers, provide them with facilities, and improve infrastructure in government schools so that every child can receive quality education. World Teachers’ Day reminds us that teachers are the architects of the nation. If we give our teachers respect and facilities, they will be able to build a bright future for the coming generations. This is the true tribute.
In rural areas of Pakistan, the situation of government schools is even more alarming. In many places, school buildings are dilapidated or do not exist at all, forcing children to study under the open sky. To enhance the role of teachers, professional training is extremely important. If they are provided with modern teaching methods, IT facilities, and continuous training workshops, a clear improvement in the standard of education can be achieved.
The involvement of parents and society is also very important. Merely burdening teachers does not raise the standard of education; parents must also pay attention to their children’s studies and cooperate with teachers.
World Teachers’ Day gives us the opportunity to collectively pledge that we will give both education and teachers the place they deserve so that Pakistan can move towards a brighter and more educated future.
