KARACHI:September 14th 2024 was the day , a collaborated event between Majmua The Art Gallery and Joining hands took place at the Ismail Gulgee Park. It was wonderful to see mothers children proffessionals taking their first step towards climate change by planting a tree. In all a 100 trees were planted. The trees were of Moringa , Gulmohar. Shehtoot, Tamarind, Keeker and a number of others.
On the right side of the park, a number of children were busy painting and drawing, immersed in art and really enjoying themselves.

The evening started with Mehreen Ilahi introducing the event and the need for this awareness.Ms. Humaira Hashmi among the speaker talked how Wuzoo water can be saved for the plants at home and its various uses.Mehreen Ilahi also pinted out that rain water also needs to be saved for drinking and domestic use and small dams and ponds can be made in villages of sind so they have enough water for their domestic use. The next speaker ,Mohammed Ali Jinnah appreciated the efforts made through the program and highlighted the fact that we need to do this effort also to save the mangroves of Karachi. Muhammad Akhlaque also supported the event with special drinks for the kids. Dr Fizza a known psychiatrist engaged the children and spoke about Mental therapy. She conducted simple exercises to make them aware.The artist Syed Ali shah worked with the students and brought out the best in them . Three kids were given certificates for outstanding work and a plant as a gift.Ms Sabeen who was among the organisers also discussed her Greenland project.They recently had a plantation drive there. Mr. Junaid Allam , the Ac of South area facilitated us by providing us the park and the team for planting of trees.He also mentioned that how this year they have been busy planting thousands of trees in karachi due to the terrible rise in temperatures and heat waves experienced in karachi. The concrete jungle definately neefs green spaces. He also distributed certificates to speakers and students. The remaining plants were given to children to plant in their homes and were asked to take care of it. The evening ended with a vote of thanks as Hi tea was announced. The children ran to grab tgeir pakoras and samosas to relish the evening. In the vote of thanks, Korangi, Hill Park and Thar future plantation drives are planned for.
