ISLAMABAD:The Ibn Sina Institute is celebrating Ibn Sina Week, 17–23 August 2026, in Pakistan during the Institute’s 25th anniversary year, bringing together science, culture, healthcare, healthy ageing, human rights and international cooperation.

Gerontologist Dr. Kemal Aydın, President of the Ibn Sina Institute and President of the D8 Countries International Health Summit (IHS), was invited as Guest of Honour of the Karachi Healthcare Expo and Conference during his visit to Pakistan.

Having received his medical education in Pakistan, Dr. Aydın is now returning to the country with a new international vision: to develop the “Age-Friendly Smart Pakistan” initiative and establish stronger cooperation between Pakistan, Türkiye and the D8 countries in healthcare, healthy ageing, medical tourism, digital health and sustainable development.

IBN SINA WEEK OPENS AT MAJMUA ART GALLERY

The first programme of Ibn Sina Week was held on 17 August 2026, from 17:00 to 21:00, at Majmua Art Gallery.

The programme highlighted Ibn Sina’s universal legacy in science, medicine and culture and promoted the vision of declaring an International Ibn Sina Year of Science, Culture and Health.

During the programme, a Cooperation Protocol between Majmua Art Gallery and the Ibn Sina Institute was signed by Mehreen Ilahi, representing Majmua Art Gallery, and Gerontologist Dr. Kemal Aydın, President of the Ibn Sina Institute.

The cooperation aims to promote Ibn Sina’s scientific and medical heritage through culture, education, art, international diplomacy and contemporary healthcare initiatives.

The programme also marked the launch of the Silkroad Forum – Muslim Heritage Expo, bringing together the historical heritage of the Muslim world with contemporary international cooperation.

IBN SINA ALLIANCE LAUNCHES NEW HEALTHCARE COOPERATION

As part of Ibn Sina Week, the Ibn Sina Alliance initiated new partnerships in healthcare, healthy ageing, human rights, sustainable development and digital transformation.

 

Dr. Essa Lab – Ibn Sina Institute

A cooperation protocol was signed between Dr. Essa Lab and the Ibn Sina Institute covering joint projects in:

– Hospital at Home
– Healthy and active ageing
– Age-friendly cities
– Sustainable development
– Protection and promotion of older persons’ human rights
– Community-based healthcare
– Independent living and social inclusion

The agreement was signed by Hümna Syed, on behalf of Dr. Essa Lab, and Gerontologist Dr. Kemal Aydın, President of the Ibn Sina Institute.

IQ TALES – Ibn Sina Institute

A second cooperation agreement was signed between IQ TALES and the Ibn Sina Institute to develop initiatives in education, digital transformation, healthcare, healthy ageing and innovative future-oriented health programmes.

The agreement was signed by Tasneen Zahra, Founder of IQ TALES, and Gerontologist Dr. Kemal Aydın, President of the Ibn Sina Institute.

These partnerships aim to contribute to a new healthcare ecosystem in Pakistan—one that moves beyond hospital-centred care toward home-based, community-based, digital and age-friendly healthcare.


D8 GLOBAL HEALTHY AGEING DIPLOMACY

The Guest of Honour of the event, Irum Fawad, has been appointed as an Ibn Sina Alliance D8 Countries Global Healthy Ageing Ambassador.

In this role, she will contribute to the development of international healthy ageing diplomacy and support the organisation of D8 Countries Healthy Ageing Conferences across D8 member countries.

The initiative seeks to strengthen cooperation among:

Türkiye – Pakistan – Bangladesh – Indonesia – Iran – Malaysia – Egypt – Nigeria – Azerbaycan

in the fields of:

Healthy Ageing | Age-Friendly Cities | Health Diplomacy | Medical Tourism | Education | Digital Health | Sustainable Development

The long-term objective is to establish a stronger D8 Healthy Ageing Cooperation Network.

HUMAN RIGHTS AND HEALTHY AGEING

The event brought together distinguished representatives from diplomacy, human rights, civil society, healthcare, business and culture.

Among the distinguished participants were Khurrem, D8 Countries Diplomacy Forum Sindh Coordinator, and Baber Ali, President of the Human Rights Peace Council and Islamic Human Rights Council, together with other distinguished guests.

The discussions highlighted the importance of:

– Independent living
– Accessibility

– Intergenerational solidarity
– Inclusive healthcare
– Social participation

MUSLIM HERITAGE EXHIBITION

The Muslim Heritage Exhibition, organised through the cooperation between the Ibn Sina Institute and Majmua Art Gallery, presented important examples of the Muslim world’s legacy in science, education, medicine, architecture and philanthropy.

The exhibition highlighted:

Al-Qarawiyyin University and Fatima al-Fihriya – Morocco

The historic Al-Qarawiyyin University and its founder Fatima al-Fihriya, representing the important contribution of women to the intellectual and educational heritage of the Muslim world.

Divriği Darüşşifa – Türkiye

The exhibition also introduced the historic Divriği Darüşşifa in Sivas, one of Anatolia’s outstanding examples of medical, architectural and charitable heritage, together with the legacy associated with Temel Melek Hatun.

The exhibition created a cultural bridge from Ibn Sina and Fatima al-Fihriya to the historic Darüşşifas and the healthcare cities of the future.

AGE-FRIENDLY SMART PAKISTAN

One of the major future-oriented initiatives announced during the programme is the Age-Friendly Smart Pakistan vision.

According to Gerontologist Dr. Kemal Aydın, healthy ageing should not be considered only a healthcare issue. It must be integrated with:
