Karachi:Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has issued instructions to launch a full-scale campaign against exorbitant fares by transporters on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He directed all relevant institutions, including the police, district administrations, NHA, traffic police, and transport authorities, to take immediate action against those involved in overcharging passengers.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the arbitrary increase in fares by some transporters places an additional financial burden on passengers, which is unacceptable under any circumstances. He stated that it is the primary responsibility of the relevant institutions to ensure maximum convenience for the public and to prevent any unauthorized increase in fares.
The senior minister directed all officers to take indiscriminate action against transporters charging excessive fares within their respective jurisdictions and to submit daily reports of their actions to the department.
He further said that providing passengers with safe and comfortable travel facilities at government-fixed fares is the government’s top priority. Therefore, all relevant institutions must remain active in the field and ensure the prompt redressal of public complaints.
