Karachi: (www.thenewslark.com) Scientia Pakistan, a digital science magazine based in Pakistan, announced the appointment of Dr. Umair Haroon to its Advisory Board. The addition supports the magazine’s stated objective of promoting science communication and improving the public understanding of scientific research in Pakistan, under the leadership of its founder and editor-in-chief, Dr. Saadeqa Khan.
Dr. Umair Haroon was born in Karachi on November 22, 1982. He graduated with an MBBS degree from Sindh Medical College in 2006 , did Fellowship training in Forensic Medicine from Dow University of Health Sciences and later completed a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from SZABIST. He is noted as the first Pakistani to pass the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators certification. Since 2015, he has served as an Expert Member of the National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS).
In addition to his medical and public health background, Dr. Umair Haroon has worked extensively in the media industry as a producer and director, developing documentaries, short films, and television programs related to science and public health. He created Pakistan’s first television series based on forensic science and has been active in public health communication through media. He also serves as a Media Goodwill Ambassador for the Indus Hospital & Health Network.
Dr. Umair Haroon has received several professional recognitions, including the Sitara-e-Pakistan Award (2021) for Best Producer, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award (2022) for Best Producer/Director of the Year, and an Award for Distinguished Contribution to Legal, Forensic, and Scientific Awareness through Media from the Karachi Bar Association (2025). He is also a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (IATAS), the organization responsible for the International Emmy Awards, as well as the United Producers Association and the Arts Council of Pakistan.
Dr. Saadeqa Khan, the founder and editor-in-chief of Scientia Pakistan, is a science journalist known for her contributions to various international publications. She has been a fellow of the National Press Foundation (Washington) and the Falling Walls Foundation. Under her leadership, Scientia Pakistan publishes content across a range of topics including astronomy, public health, and environmental science.
The inclusion of Dr. Umair Haroon on the advisory board is intended to strengthen the magazine’s engagement with scientific and media communities in Pakistan.
