KARACHI – Dr. Sammer Yousuf, Professor of Chemistry at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi, has been elected as a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries, effective 1 January 2026.

Prof. Sammer Yousuf is known for her contributions in the field of structural organic and natural product chemistry. She has edited six books, along with five chapters in books. She has published over 260 research publications in leading international journals (Google Scholar citations exceeding 3,900, h-index 32). She is also the pioneer of crystal engineering in Pakistan and established the first crystal-engineering lab at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences. In 2019, she was part of the Pakistan Hub of the project “A Global Network for Tropical Neglected Diseases (NTD)”, funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund, and managed by Durham University, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK). Based on outstanding scientific findings in the fields of leishmaniasis, the NTD-Network team won the most prestigious Medical Research Council (MRC) Impact Prize, UK, in 2023. In addition to the above, she is also an OIC-COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar, a member of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, a TWAS Young Affiliate (2013), and a recipient of the TWAS Regional Prize for Young Scientists in 2012.
