Karachi: (Mirza Iftikhar Baig)Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi and Bodhi works jointly organized a media night for the theater play “The White Plague” by filmmaker and director Meher Jaffri, held at Auditorium I. The event was graced by prominent showbiz personalities, including renowned actress Azra Mohiuddin and Sanam Saeed. “The White Plague” is based on the 1937 play written by the famous Czech playwright, critic, and journalist Karel Čapek. The theater production is dedicated to the memory of Zia Mohyeddin, as it was his last commissioned drama. The cast includes Fawad Khan, Saad Zameer, Samhan Ghazi, Kashif Hussain, Manal Siddiqui, Safiya Bhalshai, Danish Irshad, Bilal Ahmed, Muhammad Raza, Faisal Talib, Adil Shakir, and Hassan Malik. “The White Plague” is a sharp satire on war-mongering nations and the inhuman virus, still relevant today as it was before World War II. The play offers an intelligent and thought-provoking theatrical experience, depicting the impact of a mysterious plague called “White Plague” that devastates the world while a superpower prepares for an all-out aggressive war. A young doctor discovers a cure for the disease but sets conditions before sharing it with the world. Theater play will continue to be staged at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi till Sunday, August 25.
