ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Tuesday said Pakistan’s water rights under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) are protected by international law and are an integral part of the country’s national security.
In a post on X, he said an international seminar titled “Indus Waters Treaty: An Instrument of Peace and Regional Stability,” organised by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, reaffirmed that no treaty could be suspended through unilateral action.
He said Pakistan remained fully committed to peace, dialogue and the rules-based international order while firmly safeguarding its sovereignty and legitimate rights.
The minister added that regional stability could only be strengthened through respect for international commitments rather than attempts to undermine them.
