KARACHI:Sindh government, in the budget estimates 2026-27, proposed an allocation of Rs 720.385 billion for development expenditures in various sectors across the province.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, while presenting the budget in Sindh Assembly on Wednesday, said that the volume of proposed provincial Annual Development Plan (ADP) 2026-27 is Rs 385 billion, budget estimates for district ADP are Rs 15 billion, estimated FPA component stands at Rs 256.055 billion while Rs 64.33 billion has been proposed for the Federal PSDP for the next year’s budget.
A sharp decline of 30% has been recorded over the last year’s development portfolio of Rs 1,018.326 billion and the decrease will be absorbed by all development components, he stated, explaining that no new schemes will be included in ADP 2026-27 due to emerging geopolitical developments in the Gulf region, increased economic uncertainty, fiscal pressures, and the Government of Sindh’s austerity measures.
The main objective is to maximize development outcomes, prioritize completion of ongoing projects, and protect essential public services. Focus will be directed toward flagship schemes of strategic importance, he added.
Reiterating the commitment to accelerating development and improving public service delivery, the CM said that the development outlay proposed for the forthcoming financial year reflects the realities of a challenging economic environment, where volatility in global energy markets and recurrent fuel crises have increased the cost of government operations, infrastructure projects, transportation, and service delivery, placing additional strain on public finances.
“In view of these circumstances, the Government has adopted a prudent and responsible fiscal approach by prioritizing ongoing projects, safeguarding essential public services, and focusing available resources on high-impact interventions,” Shah said and vowed to continue the efforts for ensuring that every rupee spent delivers maximum value, promotes inclusive growth, and contributes to the welfare and prosperity of the people of Sindh.
