ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday expressed optimism that water flow conditions could improve with rising temperatures and expected seasonal rainfall in the coming months.
Speaking in the National Assembly, he said several rivers passing through Sialkot district, including the Ravi and other seasonal streams, were currently facing unusually low water levels.
He added that canal systems in the region were also experiencing shortages, which had reduced downstream water flow.
According to him, key canal links were carrying significantly less water than normal, leading to concerns from farmers and local communities dependent on irrigation.
Khawaja Asif said he frequently travels between Lahore and other areas and has personally observed the declining water conditions in canals during these visits.
Despite the current situation, he expressed hope that the water levels would improve with the arrival of warmer weather and seasonal rains in the coming months.
