ISLAMABAD:Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Steering Committee overseeing the privatization of Distribution Companies (DISCOs) on Friday.
The committee was briefed by Advisor Privatization on the latest position and the progress achieved on Batch-I DISCOs (IESCO, FESCO & GEPCO). The committee expressed satisfaction and advised the Privatization Commission to complete the process within agreed timelines.
DPM/FM emphasized that while privatization aims to improve efficiency, service delivery, and financial sustainability, a strong regulatory framework and effective oversight will remain essential to protect consumers’ interest, ensure transparency, and uphold accountability.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Power, Adviser on Privatization, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Power, and senior officials from relevant ministries and departments.
