Hyderabad:Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that he extends his heartfelt greetings to all pilgrims and the Muslim world on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. He said that the great sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) teaches us that sacrificing everything dear in one’s life for the sake of Allah Almighty is the true act of worship.
Talking to the media at Rawal House Rahuki, Tando Jam, Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said that on this auspicious day, we should unite and convey the message that we are celebrating the joys of Eid with mutual love and unity, putting all our old differences and issues behind us.
He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir have played an important role in establishing world peace, while humanity comes first and every human life is extremely precious. According to him, the elimination of hatred is the need of the hour, and the country should be run in the spirit of brotherhood, tolerance, and mutual understanding.
In response to a question, he said that discussions regarding the 28th Amendment are limited to mere speculation and no consultation has been held with the government in this regard. He clarified that Karachi has always been, is, and will remain a part of Sindh, while the Benazir Income Support Programme will not end as it supports poor and deserving women.
In response to another question, he said that the Latifabad to Haider Chowk route in Hyderabad will be formally launched immediately after Eid-ul-Adha. He said that the local administration of Hyderabad is making full efforts to address the city’s water issues.
He said that the initial initiative of the Red Line BRT project was taken by the Sindh government and work on it is ongoing. He added that every week, the Chief Minister of Sindh and concerned officials personally visit and review the progress of development works. He further said that the cost of essential commodities and construction has increased significantly; however, the government made every effort to retain the contractor, but due to compulsion, the contract had to be terminated. He also said that this project was not entrusted to any ordinary company but to an international company.
In response to a question on operations against drugs, he said that the crackdown is continuing very seriously and effectively, as drugs are not just substances but a deadly poison that destroys not only individuals but entire families. He said that the police are taking strong action against drug peddlers, and the media has also been requested to cooperate so that the younger generation can be saved from this menace.
In response to a question regarding women’s empowerment, he said that Sindh is taking practical steps in this regard. The Sindh government is providing pink scooters to women, along with assistance in obtaining driving licenses and training. He said that before the launch of the scheme, only 150 women had licenses, whereas now 25,000 women have applied for licenses.
He said that strict action will be taken against elements affecting traffic flow through illegal encroachments. Reacting to statements by certain elements regarding the division of the province after the inauguration of the Bhutto Highway by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he said that such elements are against development and public welfare projects.
He further said that for some parties in Karachi, their livelihood has become holding press conferences and making statements every day on one pretext or another. The drug problem is not limited to Sindh but is a nationwide issue; however, unfortunately, only Sindh is being criticized.
In response to a question regarding water, electricity, and gas, he said that water in Sindh comes from upstream areas, while the abundance of underground freshwater in Punjab is a blessing of Allah Almighty. He said that the situation in Sindh is different from other provinces, while issues of electricity and gas supply are continuously being raised and injustice is being faced at the federal level.
In response to a question regarding the local government system, he said that those parties talk about empowering local government institutions which themselves have been avoiding local government elections. He said that institutions and representatives who have a public mandate also have powers according to their jurisdiction.
He said that the government wants to completely eliminate encroachments as they create serious traffic problems. He added that the law prescribes clear punishment for murder, and a person who kills in the name of honor or otherwise is committing a serious crime. He emphasized that all laws exist and action is taken against every individual according to the law.
