ISLAMABAD: Vice President Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Sherry Rehman on Monday emphasised that Sindh’s unity was non-negotiable, while expressing concern over recent discussions regarding the province and Karachi.
Raising a point of order in the Senate, she referred to a recent resolution passed by the Sindh Assembly reaffirming the province’s historic and indivisible character.
She said the Sindh Assembly had unanimously adopted an important resolution underscoring the province’s historic status and stressed that Sindh’s unity must be respected.
Senator Sherry observed that Sindh had historically shared its resources generously with the country and cautioned against proposals that could create divisions or misunderstandings.
Highlighting the constitutional framework, she reminded the House that any change in provincial boundaries required a constitutional process, including approval by a two-thirds majority.
She further noted that constitutional matters should be approached with responsibility and in accordance with established legal procedures.
Commenting on political discourse, Senator Sherry said local political debates should not be interpreted as grounds for constitutional changes, emphasising the importance of national cohesion.
She reiterated the Pakistan Peoples Party’s longstanding commitment to democratic principles, national unity and federal harmony.
Senator Sherry stressed that unity, stability and constitutional order remained essential for the country’s progress.
