ISLAMABAD:The National Assembly Standing Committee on Water Resources, chaired by Ahmad Atteeq Anwer, MNA, convened its 10th meeting on Wednesday to review construction work on the K-IV Phase-I (260 MGD) project and to assess progress reported by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).
The Committee was informed by a representative of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) that construction work on K-IV Phase-I (260 MGD) is at an advanced stage and is scheduled for completion by December 2026. However, it was noted that timely completion of the project is contingent upon the availability and timely release of the required funds.
The Committee directed Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) to present a comprehensive briefing at the next meeting detailing progress on works falling under its respective scope of responsibility for the K-IV project.
Moreover, the Committee instructed the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) to share all available satellite imagery of the Indus Delta region from 1976 onwards to assess the extent of land loss due to sea erosion.

The record is to include details of land leased to farmers, land allocated to housing societies, and land under illegal occupation. In this regard, the Secretaries of the Irrigation Departments assured the Committee that the required records and reports would be submitted within fifteen days.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Muhammad Idrees, Riaz Ul Haq, Mian Khan Bugti (via Zoom), Shamaila Rana, Shazia Marri, Saba Talpur, and Syed Waseem Hussain, along with officials from the Ministry of Water Resources.
