Senior PML-N leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday held reckless development and corruption responsible for the widespread destruction caused by floods in Pakistan.
In a statement posted on social media, Asif said mountains were cut, trees felled, and hotels and markets built along riverbanks in the greed for wealth, which he said had provoked nature’s wrath.
He added that due to the collusion of contractors, officials, and political representatives, fragile infrastructure worth billions of rupees was washed away in moments.
The PML-N leader warned that the “deluge of illicit wealth” had not only destroyed bridges and roads but also eroded the moral values of society.
