Sukkur (Report Kashif Ali phulpoto) — Residents of Sukkur’s Micro Colony have been protesting for years against the ongoing water shortage. Speaking on behalf of the Micro Colony Action Committee, leaders Aidan Jagirani, Saifullah Rind, Hakim Chandio, Waliullah Sheikh, Muhammad Zaid Sheikh, and others said that despite Sukkur being the third largest city in Sindh and located on the banks of the Indus River, the area has been facing a water crisis for the past 15 years while the authorities remain oblivious.
They said that access to clean drinking water is every human’s basic right, but the rulers have failed to provide even that. They alleged that billions of rupees have been spent from the water budget for Micro Colony over the years, yet the crisis persists and the officials’ greed seems endless.
They further said, “We challenge the rulers to drink the same water they are providing to the public — just one glass daily — and then they will understand what kind of water is being supplied to the people.”
They demanded that the water crisis be resolved immediately; otherwise, they will continue their protest movement and will knock on the doors of the courts if necessary.
