KARACHI(By: Mehreen Iĺahi)just before Ramzan started , Majmua inaugurated an interesting show entitled: Peace and Joyful bliss. The shows participating artists were: Amir Khatri, Mariam Maaz, Maryam Khan, Afifa Sheikh.

The evening started with a whiff of rose petals scent in the air as one approached the staircase and doorway of the show. This is a tradition with Majmua The Art Gallery.
Among the artists Amir Khatri, who is most senior and famous internationally. He is greatly influenced by the invention of cubism by Pablo Piccasso, and has created his own measured spaces in his compositions. His signature style of slashing the canvas with charcoal continues till today. Amir Khatri is a very prolific artist , mainly painting Horses, woman and pigeon anda number of other subjects. His works have been recently exhibited in Cuba , Argentina and previously in Singapore , Malaysia, UK, USA,and Kenya. The gallery has an old relationship with the artist going back 26 years. This time round his birds and faces are painted on large canvasses , giving them a larger than life look. They are a pleasure to see.
Mariam Maaz another rising star in the world of Art has shown immense passion in colours and rendition of colours with knife on the canvas. The pink tree is a fantabulous example of impressionist style and so are the flower canvasses. Even the artists personality is very happy and there is a certain innocence in her carefree and wayword roses. The final impact is textured and each piece of beauty. Her works light up any room they are in and give a positive vibe.

Maryam khans minimilistic approach in her two abstracts paintings with brush strokes, an oil on paper are very modern and avant garde in style. Maryam seems to be experimenting in different styes and genres. This show at Majmua is her second .
Iffah Sheikh , a calligrapher by nature, is also a budding young artist. She is these days experimenting with resin art and calligraphy in her paintings. Her recent painting is a good example of that, using classical and contemperoray Calligraphy in Nastaleeq style. This being her fourth show at Majmua.

Ali Sajjads mural explores calligraphy and some popular suras in a very modernistic style. His use of colour is different and shows his versitality as an artist.
