ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Tuesday extended the term of constitutional benches of the Sindh High Court for one year, renominating all existing judges of the benches by a majority of 14 to one.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Commission held at the Conference Room of the Supreme Court Building in Islamabad Tuesday.
During the meeting, the Commission also took up a complaint filed by Capt. (Retd.) Muhammad Safdar Awan against Ahsan Bhoon, a member of the JCP, seeking verification and an inquiry into his educational qualifications, bar enrolment and professional credentials.
The Commission was informed that the complaint had been referred to the Secretary of the Pakistan Bar Council for comments.
According to the response received from the Pakistan Bar Council, Bhoon’s degree, submitted as a returned candidate in the Pakistan Bar Council elections, had been verified twice by the Returning Officer, the Attorney General for Pakistan, first in 2021 and again in 2026.
On both occasions, the University of the Punjab had verified the degree as genuine, the Commission was informed.
