Indian actress Antara Banerjee has become the subject of viral news on social media due to a case of mistaken identity, where she was accused of attacking a Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer with a blade on a train and being arrested.
According to the actress, she received the first call on Sunday morning when she was on her way to the gym, after which she received more than 400 phone calls throughout the day. She says that she kept explaining to her family and others that the woman mentioned in the news was not her.
Antara Banerjee said that her name was used in an online news in the morning and till night the same news spread in various social media posts with her picture and name.
According to the details, the case was not actually about Antara but about a woman named Antara Soham Banerjee, who was arrested on August 12 for allegedly fighting with railway police officers on a train and later attacking them with a blade and an FIR was registered against her.
The actress said that during the investigation of the FIR, she came to know that the names of both the women were spelled differently. The alleged accused’s father’s name is Soham while the actress’s father’s name is Subrata Banerjee. Similarly, the accused’s address is at the police station while the actress lives in Jogeshwari, Andheri West.
Antara Banerjee raised the question of how someone’s picture and name can be used in the news without verification.
She said that she is contacting the concerned persons to get this mistake corrected and is also considering filing a complaint and defamation case to protect her reputation.
The actress says that she wants the false news to be removed or a clear denial and clarification to be issued in this regard, as such news can severely damage someone’s reputation.
Antara said that in this incident, she is more worried about her parents than her own reputation and she fears that the false information spread on social media can damage her family and her professional reputation.
