KARACHI: Rotary International District 3271 formally commenced its 2026–27 Rotary year on Saturday with the installation of *Shahzad Sabir* as District Governor during a ceremony held at the Marquee, PC Hotel Karachi. The event brought together more than a thousand Rotarians, diplomats, business leaders, development professionals and community representatives from across Pakistan and overseas.
A major focus of the ceremony was the unveiling of Rotary District 3271’s flagship service initiatives for 2026–27. These included the *Million Trees Project* to promote environmental sustainability and climate resilience, the *District Medical Outreach Programme* to expand healthcare services, intensified *Polio Immunization* campaigns in support of Pakistan’s eradication efforts, *Pink Washrooms* to improve menstrual hygiene and sanitation for women and girls, *Hearing Aid* initiatives for people with hearing impairment, expanded *Breast Cancer Awareness* programmes encouraging early screening and prevention, and the continued development of *Rotary Pakistan Smart Villages*, aimed at improving education, healthcare, livelihoods, digital access and environmental sustainability through integrated community development.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the launch of the commemorative publication, *”100 Years of Rotary Service in Pakistan,”* documenting a century of Rotary’s humanitarian service, leadership and community development across the country. The book was launched by *PP. Syed Kashif Rafi, Book Anthologist, who led the compilation and editorial development of the centennial publication. Joining him on stage were **PRID. Muhammad Faiz Kidwai, **Book Project Patron PDG. M. Iqbal Qureshi, **Past Trustee Aziz Memon, **Immediate Past District Governor Shakeel Kaim Khani, and **District Governor Shahzad Sabir. At the conclusion of the launch ceremony, the dignitaries presented a specially produced hardbound edition of the book to **Jennifer A. Scott*, Director 2025–27, Rotary International, as a commemorative tribute marking a century of Rotary service in Pakistan.
The ceremony also witnessed the launch of Rotary District 3271’s official website and mobile application, aimed at strengthening digital communication, governance, volunteer engagement and service reporting across the district.
The installation ceremony was attended by *Jennifer A. Scott, Director 2025–27, Rotary International, as Chief Guest. Other distinguished Rotary leaders included **Past Trustee Aziz Memon, **Past Rotary International Director Muhammad Faiz Kidwai, **PDG. M. Iqbal Qureshi, **Immediate Past District Governor Shakeel Kaim Khani, and **Vice Governor Dr. Aftab Imam*, alongside senior Rotary leaders from Pakistan and abroad.
Earlier in the day, Assistant Governors, Club Presidents, Secretaries and District Chairs for the new Rotary year were also formally installed, reaffirming Rotary’s commitment to strengthening leadership and expanding its humanitarian footprint across Sindh and Balochistan.
The new district leadership team includes *District Governor Elect Ch. Fahad Sikandar, **District Governor Nominee Abdul Jabbar Sheikh, **District Secretary Arif Siddiqui, **District Treasurer Ravi Kumar, **District Learning Facilitator Anila Chaudhary, **Conference Chair Shahid Ismail, **Deputy Governors Pervez Madraswalla, **Shoaib Ismail* and *Imdad Ali Bughio, **Additional District Secretary Asif Mukaty, **District Joint Secretary Shafqat Ali, **District Sergeant-at-Arms Capt. (R) Sajid Mehmood, and Aides to the District Governor **Durdaana Arshad, **Muhammad Arshad, **Jamil Ahmed Khan* and *Safdar Hussain Arain*.
The District Governor will be supported during the year by an advisory council comprising *Muhammad Hanif Khan, **Syed Kashif Rafi, **Waqar Ahmed Shaikh, **Atiqua Vally* and *Mirza Abbas, while **Sumaira Shahzad*, First Lady of the District Governor, also joined the installation ceremony.
The programme included recitation from the Holy Quran, the national anthems of Pakistan and Australia, a welcome address by the President of the Rotary Club of Karachi, addresses by *Shakeel Kaim Khani, **Shahzad Sabir, **Aziz Memon, **Muhammad Faiz Kidwai, and Chief Guest **Jennifer A. Scott*, followed by the installation of the District Team 2026–27, cultural performances, presentation of commemorative shields and souvenirs, and a fellowship dinner.
The installation ceremony was facilitated through event partnerships with *Bank Alfalah, **World Wide Group, **MMI Hospital, **Dr. Essa Laboratories & Diagnostic Centre, and **Shahenshah*, who supported the successful execution of the installation proceedings.
In his inaugural address, District Governor *Shahzad Sabir* reaffirmed Rotary District 3271’s commitment to expanding sustainable community service through stronger partnerships, volunteer leadership, youth engagement and innovative service projects that address pressing social, health, educational and environmental challenges across Sindh and Balochistan.
