Karachi :Provincial Minister for Labour and Social Security and Chairman Governing Body Sisi Saeed Ghani, while talking to journalists regarding the HIV cases coming up at the Social Security Kulsoom Walikabai Walika Hospital, Site Karachi, said that this is a very sensitive and serious issue. He said that when I assumed the portfolio of the Minister for Labour on September 27, 2025, in the last week of October, probably on October 27 or 28, it came to my knowledge that a large number of cases have been identified in which HIV has been found positive. At that time, there was neither news in the newspaper nor any news in the media.
On such a day, I called a meeting of officers in Sindh Social, obtained details of all the cases and formed an inquiry committee for an immediate investigation of the matter and gave the committee the responsibility to conduct an investigation and submit its full report as soon as possible. This inquiry committee was formed on October 29, 2025. Later, in the light of the inquiry committee’s report, action was initiated against many officers. Show cause notices were issued to them. Some people were also suspended.
Meanwhile, in the first week of November, some people approached the Provincial Ombudsman and applied there. The Provincial Ombudsman issued instructions that you conduct further investigation and conduct another inquiry, we formed another inquiry committee. Meanwhile, some people have also filed a case in the Sindh High Court, during which this case was also going on with the provincial ombudsman
I can tell you one thing for sure that since we formed the inquiry committee on October 28 or 29, there have been no new cases. The positive cases that are coming to light are those who were already infected and are now coming to light as a result of screening.
At this time, we cannot tell the final number of infected people because the actual number will come out only after the complete screening process.
According to the latest inquiry report we received, we have records of 78 infected children so far. Many families have tried to contact the inquiry committee, but some people have not come forward on their own. We understand their difficulties and cannot force them, however, we are making every effort to reach them and get all the necessary information.
He further said that this matter is not a small issue, and those whose negligence or negligence is proven, whether it is a doctor, a hospital staff or an officer, will not be spared. He said that obviously no one would have done this intentionally, but someone or the other has committed negligence or negligence, we will take strict action against them. The inquiry committee has given us some recommendations as to which people should be taken action under misconduct. We will take action under it. This is one aspect of it. The other aspect of it is that what should we do for the children who are affected, the families who are affected? I want to tell you that compensation is a small word. It is not a sustainable solution that we should just give compensation. He said that whatever we had to do, whatever we had to spend on the treatment of these children, we will do it and this will be done by the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution. We will do whatever we had to do to support these affected families. In this case, we will not leave them alone
And I just want to say that the families of these affected children have been expecting from us, we have done more than that, God willing, we have shown that we have not left these children alone, we are with them, we will stand together
He finally reiterated that we will determine the real responsible parties for this negligence and negligence and punish those responsible for it
The children who are affected, the families who are affected, will be helped in every possible way
