ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday adjourned the hearing of the sentence suspension applications of convicted lawyers Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha in the controversial tweets case without any proceedings due to the unavailability of the special prosecution team.
Justice Muhammad Azam Khan heard the case. The prosecutor informed the court that three members of the prosecution team have been appointed but are not yet available. “One member has to come from Lahore, and one is currently in Court No. 1,” the prosecutor said.
Justice Muhammad Azam Khan asked the prosecutor are you aware that there is a Supreme Court order in this case?”
Advocate Riasat Ali Azad submitted that the time given by the Supreme Court has expired. Justice Azam Khan responded, “We have fixed these applications in light of the Supreme Court’s order.”
Advocate Faisal Siddiqui requested the court to hear the case when the prosecutor becomes free from Court No. 1. Justice Azam Khan noted that he had missed his 8:30 AM training class.
The prosecutor requested the court to fix the case for Thursday or next Monday. Justice Azam Khan asked Faisal Siddiqui if he would be available on Thursday. “I am fixing the case for Thursday,” he said.
Faisal Siddiqui requested the court to bind the prosecution not to seek any further adjournments. Justice Azam Khan remarked, “It does not look good to keep saying this repeatedly. We are all bound by the Supreme Court’s order.”
The court adjourned the hearing of the case until Thursday, June 4.
