ISLAMABAD:A banking court of Islamabad on Tuesday heard the foreign funding case against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and others, where the prosecutor informed the court that the charge sheet has been completed and will be submitted within one or two days.
The court adjourned the main hearing until April 21 and extended interim bail for two accused until the same date.
The case was heard by Special Court Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar. Special Prosecutor Wasiq Malik and the investigation officer appeared before the court and briefed the judge on the progress of the case. During the hearing, the judge asked about the status of the charge sheet. The prosecutor responded that the document is ready and will soon be submitted to the registrar.
The court then postponed further proceedings in the main case until April 21.
In the same case, interim bail of the nominated accused Siraj Ahmed and Faisal Qazi was extended until the next hearing. Arguments on Faisal Qazi’s bail application could not take place due to his absence from the court.
The prosecutor raised concern over the accused’s absence and questioned how he could travel abroad without informing the court. In response, the defense counsel stated that Faisal Qazi works as the head of a private bank in Dubai and travels to Pakistan for each hearing.
The judge remarked that if the accused fails to appear at the next hearing, the court will take notice of the matter.
The Federal Investigation Agency has registered the case against the PTI founder and others under charges of money laundering and related sections.
