KARACHI: As the Opposition rallies support for its no-confidence motion, former president Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to meet PML-Q chief Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain. Officials, who have knowledge about the meeting, claim that Zardari is likely to ask the Chaudhary brothers’ to support the Opposition in toppling the PTI-led government at the Centre. The meeting comes a day after Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, along with a delegation, met JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, current political situation, no-trust motion against the PTI-led government and other issues were discussed. In response to Maulana’s request, the PML-Q president said that he could not take a decision on his own on the issue of the no-confidence motion, The News reported. The JUI-F chief also conveyed his grievance to Shujaat for not accepting the invitation of Shahbaz Sharif. Fazl said that he had requested Shahbaz to invite Chaudhry Shujaat to his residence. The Fazl-Shujaat meeting took place hours after the Opposition had submitted the no-confidence motion against PM Imran Khan in the National Assembly Secretariat. A total of 86 lawmakers from the Opposition parties have signed the no-confidence motion. JUI-F’s Shahida Akhtar Ali, PML-N’s Khawaja Saad Rafique, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Sanaullah, Khawaja Saad Rafique and PPP’s Naveed Qamar and Shazia Marri submitted the no-trust motion and requisition for a session of the NA Secretariat.
