ISLAMABAD – Dr. Faisal Sultan has been appointed as Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on health after Dr. Zafar Mirza resigned from the post.According to the notification of Dr. Faisal’s appointment, his position as SAPM on health will be equivalent to the federal minister. Dr. Faisal is also Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shaukhat Khanum Memorial Hospital.Earlier, Dr Zafar Mirza on resigned as Special Assistant to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on National Health Services. He took to social-networking website Twitter and made the announcement, stating that he has resigned as special assistant due to ongoing negative discussion about the role of SAPMs and criticism on the government.
On the other hand, sources of Dunya News claimed that former Special Assistant to PM Dr. Zafar Mirza was asked to resign for not performing satisfactorily.
Furthermore, it is said that Dr Zafar Mirza failed to put a hold on the rising prices of medicines and mishandled the issue of importing raw materials for medicines from India. The Supreme Court’s observations on Dr Zafar’s competence were also among the reasons behind his resignation.
